About Jennifer Hanchey

Nice to meet you!

I'm Jen, a licensed professional counselor specializing in couples counseling.

I believe that even when a relationship has been stuck in painful patterns for a long time, a new story is possible.

I help couples understand the stories they've developed about themselves, each other, and their relationship—and we create the space to write something new.

I especially enjoy working with couples who are navigating the intersection of relationship distress and neurodivergence, including ADHD and autism.

You don't have to come into therapy knowing exactly what's wrong. You just have to be willing to look at what's happening together.

My lived experience is paired with clinical training so that the work we do is both grounded and effective.

Outside of therapy, travel is my passion; exploring the world with my husband and kids is priceless. I am a voracious reader and podcast binger. I love deep conversations, and learning new things brings me tremendous joy.

I'd love to know what makes you YOU and hear about the change you'd like to see in your life and relationships.

I may be a good fit for your relationship if . . .

You're successful everywhere except at home.

You may be highly capable, educated, driven, or successful professionally—but your relationship doesn't feel as successful as the rest of your life.

You keep having the same fight.

You know exactly how the argument starts. You may even know how it ends. What you don't know is how to stop repeating it.

ADHD or Autism may be part of the picture.

One or both partners may already have an ADHD or autism diagnosis. Or you may simply be wondering whether differences in attention, executive functioning, sensory needs, communication, or emotional processing could be affecting your relationship.

One of you pursues while the other withdraws.

One partner wants answers, reassurance, or connection. The other becomes overwhelmed, defensive, quiet, or distant. The harder one reaches, the more the other pulls away.

You love each other but don't feel connected.

You aren't looking for someone to tell you whether to stay together. You want help finding your way back to each other.

You don't want generic couples counseling.

You want therapy that considers the whole relationship—including attachment, emotional patterns, communication, and the ways neurodivergence may influence how each partner experiences the relationship.

My Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

New Story Counseling is committed to serving and affirming all individuals, regardless of race, gender identity, or sexual orientation. I uphold trans-inclusive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and anti-racist standards. I want to understand how your identity has been shaped through a confluence of factors and will respect your life’s story.

In serving all of Georgia, I make room for differences and respect individuality. I want to see and know you.

Every person has the right to secure attachment relationships and a healthy view of self.
